You might encounter snow there in late October. One way to find out about snow there is to look at their visitor center webcam here: http://www.estesnet.com/cam/ As far as hiking, there is lots of hiking there. I did the hike to Cub Lake yesterday, which is relatively easy but I also like the hikes to Bierstadt Lake, Mills Lake, and Dream Lake, among others. There are also a good number of waterfall hikes there although there won't be as much water in them in late October. One of the easiest of those is the hike to Alberta Falls.
